As we were approaching allergy season here in Virginia this year, I knew I wanted to invest in a good air purifier. Tyler has terrible allergies and mine can get pretty obnoxious as well. Mason already seems to be affected by allergies as well, and we wanted to give the family a fighting chance this spring.
I knew I wanted something functional while not causing an eyesore in our home. We have become pretty picky about what we bring into our home these days. We try to make sure everything we purchase is useful, simple, beautiful, and brings us joy.
Well, the Molekule is certainly beautiful.
Even the MoMA Design Store approves of it. I love that at 18lbs, and with a natural leather handle, it is portable and can be moved to different rooms of our home as needed.
It also made the TIME 25 Best Inventions of 2017 list!
I’m surprised I didn’t hear about it sooner.
Molekule is different than other air purifiers on the market. It uses a
This already got the science nerd in me all giddy.
This air purifier took 20 years of research to create and was developed with grants via the Department of Defense and the Environmental Protection Agency.
I contacted Molekule and told them I was really interested in testing it out, and they sent our family one to review. (Our Molekule was gifted, but this is not a sponsored or paid advertisement!)
Set up was so easy that Tyler had it up and running within 10 minutes of taking it out of the box. You can control it from a simple touch screen display on top of the unit or
If you connect to the companion app from your phone, you can change the cleaning cycle or see how much life is left in your filters from the app. The auto-refill program can also automatically send new filters to your door every 6 months, which is a life-saver since I never remember to order new air filters!
This machine is powerful! It draws air in from 360 degrees and replaces the air in a 600ft room once per hour.
It also has four different operating modes:
Auto: 42dBa – hushed conversation. On this setting, the Molekule takes into account the size of your room and cleans at the appropriate level.
Boost: 55dBa – the sound of a normal conversation. The filter runs at maximum speed – best for when you need a deep cleaning – like just after you dust the house!
Silent: 30dBa – a whisper. The filter runs at a slower speed, at a quieter noise level. It sill cleans well, but may take a little longer.
Dark: In this mode, the light of the device will turn off (best for while you are sleeping) and the PECO-Filter will function
For the first week, we kept the Molekule in Mason’s room and noticed he was less congested and coughing less frequently. It truly left the air smelling cleaner.
The second week, we moved it to our basement, which had a couch in it that our dog probably slept on for 7 years. I literally couldn’t believe the difference. The odor was completely gone, and my eyes didn’t get watery and itchy like they usually did when we spent time with Mason in the playroom downstairs.
At $799 it is pretty pricey, but if you are looking for something more thorough than a typical HEPA filter I would definitely consider the
