You probably spent a TON of time worrying about what to have on hand for baby – but have you thought about yourself mama?? There are a few essentials I recommend having on hand for when you get home from the hospital.
1. A huge water bottle with a straw.
You are going to be soooooo thirsty! Your body has gone through a huge shift of fluid after the delivery of your baby. You will also need added hydration if you are breastfeeding. I had NO idea just how thirsty I could get!
2. Postpartum Underwear
The postpartum period is full of many things you would never expect. I had no idea the amount of bleeding and bladder leakage there would be! I knew I would be buying diapers for my baby – but a mama version of a ‘diaper’?! This was new to me! But it was a lifesaver. (I loved the ones from Depend!!)
3. Home Made Peri Pads
I recommend making these very simply with just Witch Hazel and Aloe Vera! The more ingredients you use (essential oils etc.) the more risk there is for an inflammatory reaction! Partner with @Depend Silhouette or @Poise products to keep your clothes protected.
4. Snacks
And to be more specific – snacks that you can eat with one hand!! Your other hand will be occupied with holding your baby so you want to be sure you have easy things you can munch on. You won’t be able to take care of anyone else if you don’t take care of yourself first mama!
5. Comfy Clothes
You are still going to feel ‘mostly’ pregnant and if you are breastfeeding you are going to need easy access to those ta-ta’s! Loose clothing that allows you to easily feed your little is a must! Nursing bras, postpartum underwear (like these from Depend), a robe, high waisted leggings, and postpartum tanks are great to stock up on!
You are amazing mama! This time goes by soooooo quickly. Don’t forget to take care of yourself while you are loving on that sweet brand new babe of yours!

I’d add Susan’s sleep training book: https://www.parental-love.com/shop/baby-sleep-training with her newborn tips so you can sleep well since the very first weeks! I find it super important!
I know Susan’s book! I’ve been using breastfeeding guide and this one about sleep. It is amazing how gently you can do the training… I wouldn’t even expect that to work if not my friend using it first.
Thanks for the tips! I love the idea of having things home-made although it may be too late to hustle. And hey, I also have these Susan Urban’s book mentioned so I guess I’m all set up!
